The City of North Myrtle Beach will celebrate the 40th anniversary Wednesday. According to a press release, the city will offer tours to the public, video interviews, a special ceremony and recognition of many of the people who have contributed to the City’s success.

Beginning at 9 a.m., the City will be conducting guided tours of all City buildings and offices. The tours are open to the public. Those interested are invited to tour City Hall, any of North Myrtle Beach’s five fire stations, the Public Safety Building, Support Services, the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center and the Aquatic & Fitness Center. Guided tours will conclude at 4 p.m.

The ceremony celebrating the 40 years of North Myrtle Beach’s incorporation will begin at 11 a.m. at City Hall. The ceremony will include the color guard, an invocation, remarks by Mayor Marilyn Hatley, and remarks by some former mayors of the City and other North Myrtle Beach dignitaries. There also will be a reception in City Hall following the approximately one-hour ceremony. The public is invited to both the ceremony and the reception.

The City of North Myrtle Beach was formed in 1968 when four small beach towns – Cherry Grove Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, Crescent Beach and Windy Hill Beach – consolidated into one community.

Located on the northern coastline of South Carolina, the city encompasses 14.81 square miles including nine uninterrupted miles of beautiful beaches.

North Myrtle Beach, which operates under a council-manager form of government, has nearly 13,000 year-round residents and receives 3.5 million tourists each year.
